Painted sketch of tea... and sketch

I used a Koi Waterbrush (fill the handle with water) for the first time. It stays wet and I used 1/3 a 'handle full' of water for this painting however, it is very difficult to control the amount of water that comes out. It's the medium size from Curry's Art Store for about $7.
The portable 12 pan Winsor Newton watercolour set is great for sketching. Super duper portable and I had lots of fun.

  4. Lovely sketch Nora. I too found the water hard to control with the Waterbrush. Constant wiping on a towel helped.

  5. What a gorgeous sketch! I have Niji waterbrushes and I never have a problem with too much water, unless I squeeze the tube too hard. At the same time, I've not coaxed such beautiful color out of travel artist pan either! Mine have cake colors in them.

  8. I like the sketchbook within the sketchbook! I like my water pen on the road, but I only use it to note color rather than really utilizing the potentials of watercolor...

  11. Yes, this type of brush is very useful - particularly if I am using one on an Inktense sketch on the sofa! - but like you I find it difficult to control the amount of water coming through the brush. I usually end up with a piece of kitchen towel between my fingers and then I drip a little from the brush onto my palm. Not the best way, I know, but it does for smallish sketched in my sketchbook when I'm tired.
    I liked the sketches.

  16. I just discovered these water filled pens about two weeks ago. I love them and want the hug the inventor. At the moment I have the first doodle that I used them on, posted on my blog. I was having fun with the National Wear Red Day, theme. Your work is so inspiring . . . you're a very talented lady. I love, love, love your blog.
    Your blogging sister Connie :)
P.S. Now, I'm on to check out some of your posts that I may have missed. Have a wonderful art filled day.

  17. Lovely to see your working papers. I use a water pen with water soluble pens. I sketch then just wet the shadow side of the ink marks etc Works a treat when on the hoof. Just another idea.

  18. I bought a set of these Koi brushes last year and gave them a try. I'm not sure I like them. I didn't get the results I expected. Also, I found that they shed a lot! Maybe it's the way I was using them.

    Love your tea sketch!!

  19. Hola Nora. vaya, yo también utilizo el pincel de agua y la misma caja de 12 acuarelas pequeña para pintar al exterior. Está muy bien.
    Un fuerte saludo

  31. I love that you drew the sketchbook, too. You definitely need to have a loose style when you use waterbrushes, but I love them because I can just start and stop. They're great for those of us who deal with fatigue by painting or drawing. The tea set looks lovely.

  33. Love your ink drawings and watercolors. I recently discovered the Koi waterbrushes too, love them. Like you, I too team it with my W & N artist watercolor pocket sized box and a small block and I can keep it in the car.
