cross training

SOLD

I've decided that painting flowers is just as difficult, if not more so, than painting the human figure... and horses! Flowers are so abstract. I really tried to keep their expressive nature and their individuality without getting heavy handed.
$50 - 5"x7" original watercolour - includes 8"x10" matt.

  3. I agree, flowers can be difficult. Some need simplicity, others are complex and need a lot of layers and shadows. These flowers are lovely.

  9. All your work is enticing, Nora. These flowers are beautiful in color and form. Did you see that Jo M. has honored you with trying to emulate your style for the DPW challenge this week? I am going to try also, to do a gesture sketch with watercolor. I didn't realize that you draw with a mechanical pencil first. When you have the ink lines, is that over the pencil and somewhat simplified, before you add the watercolor?

  17. As always the colours are so beautiful and the arrangement perfect.
You make painting flowers look so easy - the simplicity of the difficult, but I agree they are so difficult. At least you can ask a model to stand up straight again please, but when the flower wants to droop a bit or twist a little it just never listens to you. You must work very quickly to get that just fresh look that makes your paintings so lovely.

  23. Very abstract and so many colors and hues. They put flesh to shame... and I love painting the figure!

  24. Boy, you are so right! I don't know if I'll ever even attempt a horse!

  25. One of the things I love about your work, Nora, is how juicy it is. You always achieve the wet look that usually can only be achieved when we use yupo paper...even when you're using regular watercolor paper. It's such fun, and so inspiring, following your blog. I really enjoy it!
