$80 - 5x7" original watercolour painting in 8x10"mat

Spring isn't quite in the air... but I'm gearing up for it!!

My next project will be putting my watercolour paintings on board and waxing (!) them so they do not need to be framed behind glass. I'm very excited about this new way of showing my art. I've been watching lots of videos about how to do this, as well as talking to fellow artists who've done it successfully. Fingers crossed. #nextproject

I wanted to paint this lovely lakefront cabin because of the string of pennants that hang across the deck. So colourful... right up my alley! Thanks to Instagramers Marek and Shari, and Christina for the photo, who encouraged us all to paint along with them during their live demo.

Here's a few more photos - : )

I loved painting her eyes! And this time I added some greens to the shadows,  instead of using purple as I often do.
Here are two more photos, including the original charcoal sketch on newsprint. Check out my Instagram account for even more!

February's Flower - the violet

It's February, and despite the snow and cold, these pretty purple pals are here to cheer up your day. Check out my Instagram Account to see the slideshow of the process. (Sadly, I can't seem to upload it here on blogger.)

And now, off to the opening of the Heliconian Life Drawing show. I'll be there from 1-2 Saturday February 9 at 35 Hazelton Ave., Toronto. Hope to see you there.

Work Small, Learn Big! I think this credo is soooo true for artists. Sunday portrait sessions at the awesome Don Valley Art Club are starting to pay off with many small studies. I like small paintings, they warm up the nooks and crannies of the home. : )

companion

I really enjoyed painting this patient little companion, with all his warm browns and oranges contrasting some cool blues. What a little honey bun!
