SOLD OUT
Hello Artist Friends,
I'm so glad you're interested in joining me on ZOOM!!
Tuesday Dec.9, '25 from 6-8pm ET.

During this 2 hour Watercolour Workshop we'll paint your favourite letter and surround it with lovely simple flowers. The lesson is all about COLOUR and DESIGN. You'll choose a palette of selected colours, that suits you, and then place pretty flowers or holly around the edges. It makes for a lovely composition with a personal touch.

This artwork makes a great gift! It can also be turned into a card for someone special this holiday season. (Or just keep it for yourself!)

I will share my screen with you so you can paint-a-long as we create our watercolour paintings. My Zoom set up makes it easy for you to watch me painting on your computer or iPad screen. (iPhone viewing is not recommended since the screen is too small).

Portraits Workshop - APRIL 25, '20

SATURDAY APRIL 25, 2020!
I'll be teaching a Portraits Workshop here in Toronto with the Willowdale Group of Artists. I'm really looking forward to it.
Here's the description -
PORTRAITS
with Nora MacPhail

In this workshop we will explore an approach to portraits using an easy-to-remember way to block-in. This method includes using measurements for finding facial features, as well as using comparisons to find a likeness. Common mistakes and how to improve them will also be reviewed. No more struggling with egg heads and wonky eyes. ; )
I will do demos using photographs. Artist will be doing lots of drawing (bring your sketchbooks!) and we will be painting with watercolour.

CONTACT ADELE - wgaworkshops@gmail.com

MEDIUM - Watercolour (and Drawing Materials).

PHOTOS - Bring your copyright free reference photos of adults (no children - those measurements are different). Try to find photos that are close ups of the head and shoulders with contrasting lighting. I will bring extra photos for participants to work from.

MATERIALS -
Bring painting supplies you like and what you’re used to. Materials list is attached.

Watercolour Portrait Sketch

Here's another piece I did during the Janet Rogers workshop. My goal for the three days was to see shapes. I'm a line and colour artist and, knowing how important it is to be able to make a clean decisive shape, I stuck with the program. ; )

Janet Rogers Workshop was wonderful!

Here are two quick sketches I painted during a wonderful 3 day workshop with the lovely watercolour artist Janet Rogers. We used 140lb Arches Cold Pressed, which I haven't used in years, since I use the slippery Hot Pressed paper. It was wonderful to get back to it however, I think I'll stick with HP since it takes pencil drawings so nicely. ; )

Toronto Watercolour Society - Linda Kemp Workshop

Well, here is my first ever attempt at Negative Painting. I spent the weekend taking a  2 Day Toronto Watercolour Society Workshop with the amazing Linda Kemp. She is a fantastic teacher. We did lots of helpful exercises. Then we did a colourful wet-in-wet wash on our 140b cold-pressed paper, using fresh tube paints, and painted AROUND the positive shapes (berries). Basically, paint the space between the braches, not the branches. It really stretches your artistic vision.
Check out her website HERE
If you ever get a chance to take a class with her, take it!
Happy Painting Everyone!

Cawthra Art Group

I just finished teaching the wonderful Cawthra Art Group. We spent 4 weeks together covering cafe scenes, cityscapes, still life and, as you can see, Einstein portraits! It was a fantastic experience with lovely and talented artists!
Thanks again to a warm and wonderful gang!
