I love the bright red on this very cool Eurasian Bullfinch. I discovered a photo reference on Pixabay, a free image site, when I typed in colourful birds. His lovely colours blend right into his cheeks! ; )

tree-dwelling bee-eating cutie-patootie

SOLD

$100 - 6x6" original oil painting on 1/8"panel.

Birds that sit atop a tree stump, and check out the area, with such a relaxed confidence, are sooo cute! (I love the colours on the face of this bee-eater.)

Robins are such wonderful birds to paint because the bright red and orange colours contrast beautifully with the many warm and cool greys. I painted this cutie-patootie on the first snowfall here in Toronto. It was a big decision to add the snowflakes but, I thought what the heck, and I went for it! ; )

The more I look at birds, the more I notice that they can sit quite still, except their cute little heads, which move around like crazy as they look up and down. Sooo cute.

Here are some process pics.

Bright Colours first (to keep them clean)

Add warm greys

Add Cooler Grey as move down to the Tail

Grey Green Background

Hints of Warm Greens in the Background Trees

Thanks for stopping by. Lots more Bird Paintings will be happening for the Christmas Season!

Persimmons Paintings x 2

"persimmon kiss"

$100 - 6x6" original oil painting on 1/8"panel -
I really thought about design for this one, considering the square cool pink and blue in contrast with the warm round orange persimmons. After taking a picture through my viewfinder, I later decided to put them on the floor to get a more unique perspective.

"purple plate with persimmon and pinecone"

$100 - 6x6" oil painting on 1/8" panel -

For this one, I was able to incorporate a little purple plate I've been wanting to paint. I think purple, orange and green go well together. ; )

Dragon Fruit!

I saw this dragon fruit in the grocery store and I thought... 'I could never paint that thing'! and then I thought... 'could I'? So, I took on the challenge and here are the results.

I love the 12x6" format. And I also love the 6x12" format. ; )

Painting the little seeds was like painting snowflakes, little radom dabs of paint.

They are $120 each or the set for $225. I think they look great together. Click here - Daily Paintworks for purchase info.

Here are some process pics. Enjoy and Thanks for looking.

pumpkin glow

SOLD

$80 - 6x6" original oil painting on 1/8"panel

Halloweeeeen! Only a few weeks away. I painted this little glass pumpkin and candy rockets in my studio. Since I painted by candlelight, there was a bit of a 'trick' to it... but it was a 'treat' to paint. ;)

Another Two-Colour Palette! For this wonderful model, (thanks RawUmberStudios for the YouTube paintalongs), I chose Pyrrole Red and Cerulean Blue. I love dark blue with red. The Pyrrole is a Cobra oil brand and it's basically a warm Cadmium Red. Here are some palette pics.

When I saw the wonderful red scarf on her head, I knew I just had to paint her. And glasses to match! Such a great expression too.

Thanks for checkin' out my blog. Cheers and Be Well. ; )

story time

SOLD

$90 - 6x6" original oil painting on 1/8" panel.

The lemon is telling a story to his little grape friends... obviously. ; ) There is actually a lot of transparent green in purple grapes. So, I added a green paper to the set up to match. Cheers.

morning chickadee

SOLD

$100 - 5x7" original oil painting on 1/8" panel.

This little chickadee loves to sing in the morning, sit high upon the tree tops and she pours lots of chocolate sauce on her sundaes. ; )
