I looooved painting this lovely Japanese house. The home is tall and thin with vines growing down it - nothing like what I see here in Toronto. 

I really appreciate the generosity of Marek and Wade for sharing their live demos on Instagram, as well as the unique pic. I drew with a charcoal pencil, focusing on the bicycles, then added tons of watercolour. The umbrella, the awning, the planters with the lovely vine growing - So much to paint and enjoy!

Back outside for some more plein-air painting. This pile of logs was a real challenge, especially since the sun seemed to disappear just as I got started!

This is the second painting I did on Saturday at the Spadina Museum. A fellow plein air artist bought it right on the spot! I plan to go back and paint this greenhouse bigger. Well, 11x14", which is bigger for me!

This little painting kit is just a strong cardboard box with my Winsor Newton palette in it, along with water cup, water spritzer, and a bull dog clip holding a rag. The watercolour block fits inside the lid nicely.

Central Connection Art Show 2014

The weather was fantastic this weekend and as a result we had lots of visitors to the Withrow Park Clubhouse for our art show. You can see from the first pic that the high windows make this a lovely well lit venue. Many thanks to all the supporters for their kind words. And purchases! I love this corner house. Every time I walk past it I am inspired by it. I painted this on Hot Pressed Watercolour Paper, just to mix things up a bit. (Also it was on sale!) I like the way the pencil slides easily across the smooth texture, as opposed to the slight grain in my usual Cold Pressed Paper. I'll do a few more and see how it goes...
