I love pink and brown together and I thought... can I make the clouds pink and brown... will it work? So, I went for it and I'm super happy that I did. This is the advantage of painting small and often - ya' try things! 

Then I decided to paint it in the usual colours but putting as much colour into the greys as possible.

The model at yesterday's life drawing class was just sensational. I had never drawn him before and a new model is always a treat. He had a really interesting face and he kept very still. Instead of my usual watercolour, I decided to use conte, a tool that allows for big loose strokes (lots of freedom!) and 11x15" newsprint, for it's smooth and unintimidating qualities. Lots of fun. 

Now, back to my anatomy books to brush up!

Here's my Antelope study page from my sketchbook, done in mechanical and 6B pencils. The rings on their horns are quite fascinating and more defined than I previously thought. It's fun doing these studies before venturing into a painting. I like the free images website called Pixabay. : )

A second piece from the same life drawing class earlier this week. I'm trying out new watercolour paper which is still the hot-pressed, but it's from Fabriano. It's good because, as usual, the colours sit on top of the paper however, it really won't take a second wash of colour... So, one wash of colour and get out of there! ; )

Tree Studies

A few long overdue tree studies.

Viridian Opera

Well, this one doesn't look anything like the model... but I sure had fun messing around with a green and pink palette. I used Viridian and Opera which make a lovely purple. I added dashes of Cadmium Red just to warm it up a bit.

Don Valley Art Club Portrait

At the Don Valley Art Club, a bunch of artists get together and pose for each other for 25 minutes. The session is 3 hours so I normally do 5-6 portraits a session (depending on whether or not it's my turn to pose that day). By the time I get to painting number 4, I've loosened up and get more carefree. That's what happened with this painting. I like it because I was so relaxed while painting it. It's a bit 'sloppier' which, I think, worked out well for this one. : )
