After being so inspired by my last flower painting, I decided to get into the daily painting process again. So, off to the flower shop for this pretty bunch, all of whom say "good morning" to you. ; )

Happy New Year! This lovely "sassy bunch" are ready to charge into 2023. I painted along with the very talented Amy Brgner for this one. Then, I added a window so they could have a view of the sky. ; )

Homes. I love looking at homes whether it be interior decorating pics on Instagram, the t.v. show Escape to the Country, paintings of interiors, or, of course, actual homes! Interiors are full of colours and fun various shapes. It's where we spend so much of our valuable time. It's us. Especially lately...

So, painting interiors has been a subject I've really wanted to explore for some time. It's my New Year's Resolution... Early! I started with this wonderful kitchen windowsill. (I 'ad-libbed' that red and white striped cloth - every kitchen should have one!)

Reflections look sooo cool in metallic foil balloons. The colour on this dusty rose ballon sure changes with every bounce of light! Thanks again to Teddi Parker (awesome artist) for the #balloonchallenge

In order to capture the little "whispies" of the willow buds, I used a toothpick. 

Sometimes, a brush just doesn't do the job.

Also, I don't normally paint like this but, when painting glass, it can be easier to just fill in the whole background.

Then I started to build up the glass. Normally, I do a drawing with burnt umber and a thin brush and work my way out. It was quite a challenge to take this approach but... always learning! Cheers.

During my train ride to the watercolour class I'm teaching, I used a thick Micron artist's pen. It's got a calligraphy nib which is notably fun to use, but conducive to the bumpy ride!

I loved drawing this! The cars were flying by on the road along side the train that I was sitting in. Then, I painted it with the same vigour and speed as I drew it. One of my faves. : )

This is the second painting of my train ride series. The lines get a little 'train shaky' as I draw them, and I try to keep that energy with watercolour once I add paint in my studio.

I've been teaching a watercolour class just west of Toronto and I've used the commute as inspiration for a few paintings. Fortunately, the GoTrain that I take just briskly coasts through the city, perfect for getting pen lines down and a feel for the landscape as it slips on by.

I really loved doing the line drawing for this scene. I'm still working with a drawn frame, but letting the image emerge from it in places.
