fast friends

I've been wanting to paint this dark vase with white flowers for some time now. When I set them up on their own, I quickly realized they needed some friends to accompany them.

I painted this from a sketch I drew while walking down the street. I loved my drawing series "walking while drawing", which is exactly what it sounds like, draw, walk, don't lift the pencil and watch your step! Perhaps I'll get back to it.

I'm continuing to turn my sketches into oil paintings, which means learning to sketch in a new way.  I love line drawings, but they don't give me the information I need to paint from.  So, my original sketch was made up of values and colour notes.
