back to school

Now that September is here, all of the art schools have opened and drawing sessions have started up again, like portrait painting. Yippee!

chocolate chip cookie on a rainy day

I really enjoyed drawing this, especially the people outside as they hurried through the rain.

green tea and a panda

I drew this cute panda sign from a cafe across the street. (I think he enjoyed posing for me, he didn't blink once!)

hang a right at the corner

Back to my favourite subject, cityscapes! I drew this from the second floor of my favourite Second Cup coffee shop.

the flame

The female companion of yesterday's "spark" is just as lovely. She likes Macintosh's Toffee, Smarties and Portuguese custard tarts. Oh, and she is good friends with the Pillsbury Doughboy.

the spark

This striking fellow has a soft familiar morning call. He is the first love of many bird enthusiasts (and he knows it!). He loves winter, enjoys cryptic crosswords, and is a master at directing traffic.

the genuine article

This lovely Cedar Waxwing has such a high pitched whistle she'll stop you in your tracks. She loves roller coasters, is always prepared for a masquerade ball and enjoys Werthers Original. That's Original.

burst out laughing

This little kookaburra can belt out a song that sounds just like a monkey laughing. He likes magic, collecting shells and Woody Allen movies.

I got an idea...

Today I thought, why not tone the paper before painting on it, like with a canvas before applying oil paint. Normally you don't with watercolour but, bing, lightbulb... I used white gouache and hot pink watercolour first! Then pen and ink. Of course, lightbulb is the topic of the DPW Challenge too.
