This is my third and final 12"x12" painting for the Square Foot Show at AWOL Art Gallery! I drop off this one, Plaid and Turquoise and Balcony Flowers tomorrow night for the August show.
Frank Frazetta is a great comic book artist and I love these polar bears that he originally did in oil. I knew Yuppo paper would be perfect for the wet, icy, cold style I was trying to achieve.
This morning was my fourth 'balcony adventure' with my new easel. I plan to graduate to the park, all the way across the street (!) by next week. Again, baby steps... SOLD
I just received my new Artwork Essentials Classic Easyl. It's designed for Plein-Air painting, so I can paint on location. I just love it. So, for my first adventure, I took it out onto my balcony! (I'm a firm believer in baby steps).
Today I drew studies from Sargent's (my fave artist) book of Portraits. I was focusing on the strokes he used to block in large areas vs. when he used a single simple line. I didn't intend to slavishly copy them, just learn from them. Now I have a much better understanding of drawing eyes! not for sale
The Square Foot Art Show at AWOL Gallery is next month. This is the first of 3 paintings I'm going to submit, 12"x12" each (hence square foot!). It's such a great show. It's not juried so it's a mixed bag of nuts! It truly embraces all walks of art. SOLD 22
UPDATE - I touched up this painting in November of 2019. I thought the labels on the paint were not quite readable enough.... although they are still abstracted. ; )
Woke up early to paint these raspberries. Most people have to eat up their fruit and vegetables before they go bad. I have to paint them before they go bad!
I enjoyed the turquoise and purple theme so much, I thought I'd keep going with it. These are more flowers from my garden, which is doing great this summer!
