Contour Characters

SOLD

I really focused on the model/fellow artist, and not on my paper, for these contour characters drawn during our Zoom Portrait Session. Sometimes I add a splash of burnt sienna for warmth and some cool purple for darks. For the last one, I decided to leave it alone. I love the mirror behind her. Here's a pic of the awesome Lyra 6B graphite stick. I've been 'into' lately. It's nice and chunky! ; )

musical trio

I had a fantabulous time sketching a musical trio at life drawing today. They practised, we sketched. It was a great experience, mostly because musicians take 'poses' that life models never do, so it was all new to us.
There were three of them with five instruments. Violin, viola, flute, bassoon and piccolo. They switched seats every 20 minutes (playing musical chairs literally!) so we all had a good experience. I used charcoal pencil and watercolour, oh... and I had a blast! ; )

triangulate

The dynamic shapes that the human figure can make, especially when you aim for design, are always a unique pleasure.

#OneWeek100People2019 Challenge

The challenge started today! So, off I went to life drawing class with pencil in hand.
I always try to capture one good little pencil portrait for my sketchbook.
Below are some gesture drawings. I added the artists... (I have to get to 100 somehow!)

The challenge was started by Marc Taro Holmes, a wonderful fellow urban sketcher and awesome artist. Below are a few of the 2 minute gestures.
Anyone can join in the fun. Give it a go, see the facebook page and hashtag it #OneWeek100People2018
That's 22 people sketches. (Let's agree that drawing the same person counts.)

Toronto Arts and Crafts Sale 2018

One-Long-Line Drawings
I'm all prepared for the show tomorrow. I'll be selling my original watercolour paintings and my One-Long-Line Drawings. They are so fun to draw. I just keep my pen on the paper and let the line wander.
This is my 7th year in the show. I love it! Come by my table on the main floor and say Hi.

Day 2 of Inktober and the prompt word is 'divided'. This little critter is divided in markings as well as in a cuteness/smelly way! 😉

lunch for 3

$60 - 5x7"original watercolour painting with 8x10"mat

I drew these 3 guys with a strong gestural ink line then added a wash of colourful watercolour paint. I was very selective about what I left white. I wanted to do something a bit different and I'm very happy with the end design. : )

horse gestures

Having a blast with pencil, drawing these horse gestures! I spent some time reviewing horse anatomy, from one of my favourite animal drawing books by Jack Hamm called "How to Draw Animals". Then, with the help of free images from pixabay, I drew as many as I could, as fast as I could. : )

criss cross

$60 - 5x7"original watercolour painting with 8x10"mat.
I'm finding my way during figure painting classes lately with a rose and olive watercolour palette. Since the poses are quick and I'm working 'on the fly', I find deciding on the paper size and the colours I'm going to use, before the class starts, gives me the opportunity to just concentrate on getting an interesting line then putting in select values.

reaching sphere

$80 - 8x10"watercolour original painting
I tried out a new palette during my life drawing class this week. I added olive green, a colour I rarely use, to balance the soft pinks. For this pose, the model held a blue ball which contrasted wonderfully with my red green palette.

some sketches

Here are a few recent sketches. Two are drawn with 6B pencil and the middle one is a watercolour with no drawing first. Just went for it with pink and green paint, which is very rare for me. I don't normally use much green in faces, but after doing that piece, I've added green to my palette.
N.B. I am away for a short vacation. : ) All purchased paintings will be shipped on Tuesday April 25th. Thanks for your patience.

at your side

$80 - 6x8"watercolour painting with 8x10"mat
Flowers have such a beautiful abstract quality. They really are a joy to paint. And this turquoise vase is one of my favourites.

Hand Studies with Tiggs and Elly

I found some new cute finger puppets which I've named Tiggs and Elly. ; ) This is a continuation of a hand studies series I started some time ago. I'm happy to be back at it.
