I'm working on a few more abstracts before teaching a Watercolour Class this Thursday. It's about using selected colours in loose non-representational ways.
I received my Certificate for 10 hours of gesture drawing from Quickposes today! It's a wonderful website that has photos that you can draw from. Of course, drawing from life is preferred, but it's not always manageable. So, quickposes.comis a great alternative. You can choose to draw nude, costume, male, female, both, hands or feet, then select a time interval from 30 seconds to 2 minutes. The program switches images for you as you sit and draw. If you sign in you can accumulate drawing time and they send you a certificate.
We are having a severe cold spell here in Toronto. So, the only thing to do is stay inside evenings and paint flowers. The challenge here was to see if a bright orange background would work. close ups -
Lately I've been working with white objects, mostly flowers, for my daily paintings. The subtle values in the shadows of white are a real challenge. I like adding a strong colour, like the orange here, as a contrast.
I think this fresh loose painting is a great way to end a long lingering winter. Time for a holiday in the sun! Happy Easter to all and I'll see you in May.
