front yard friend

I've been painting outdoors this summer and since there's so much green out there, I've decided to put myself on a 7 Day Tree Challenge. This is Tree 1.

I was very inspired this week to do some lion drawings thanks to the Daily Paintworks Challenge. These are done with charcoal pencil on newsprint.

in the lead

I painted this at the Riverdale Farm which is a wonderful farm animal zoo. It used to be the Toronto Zoo and they had a polar bear at the end of this path! Hard to believe now.

sunny but cool

$60 - 5x7"painting with 8x10"mat.
It's been a wonderful sunny but cool summer. I had a blast painting this motorcycles. I just let the red paint ooze all over the place!
So, back outside to paint.

with a splash of cranberry juice

I painted this waterfall at the lovely Toronto Botanical Gardens with the Toronto Plein-Air Painters! I'm so happy that I joined this group since it takes all the intimidation out of painting outdoors.
The camera angle of my paintbox always makes it look like I was super far from the subject, but I wasn't really...

Back outside for some more plein-air painting. This pile of logs was a real challenge, especially since the sun seemed to disappear just as I got started!

casual occasion

Painting on a larger size paper is working out much better than I had thought. I don't know what all the fuss was about, hence the title. Also, I'm not sure why, but I do like flowers on a chair.

hard to believe

It's my blog's birthday! 3 years ago today I started. Thank you to everyone for your inspirational comments and ongoing support. When you paint alone it's hard to know how you're doing so, it's great to hear feedback from your fellow artists and art supporters. Year four... here I come!

step right up

I found this lovely red glass jug at a garage sale over the weekend. And tulips were on sale! Both of which encouraged me to paint larger.

This is the second painting I did on Saturday at the Spadina Museum. A fellow plein air artist bought it right on the spot! I plan to go back and paint this greenhouse bigger. Well, 11x14", which is bigger for me!
