PINK ARRAY

SOLD

I've been painting with watercolour a lot lately however, this morning, it was time to get back to oil. I love painting two vases of flowers side by side, since they 'play' off each other. And, I added a nice strong side light. Super fun.

older and wiser

   $606x8"original gouache painting
A friend told me that she could see in my latest gouache portraits that I was really enjoying painting with gouache. I was thrilled with that comment, and she's right! I do love painting with it. Watercolour is awesome but sometimes it's nice to apply some thick paint.  ; )
Here's my set up. I use the same air tight (pretty much) palette that Lena Rivo uses. Check her out on Instagram if you're interested. Her gouache paintings are awesome.
Here's a close up. Trying to let lots of colours blend together, just like watercolour.
It's nice to look at the painting in black and white, to make sure the values are working together.
I am now a firm believer that working with a different medium (gouache) for a while really enhances your knoweldge of your usual medium (watercolour). It's really informative to be able to make comparisons. : )

cover to cover

Here's my second line drawing for InkTober. I drew this one while at the library and it's so nice to see people with books in front of them, instead of computers! Still working on how to take a photo of a white piece of paper... looking a bit gray but the only alternative is over exposed. Any ideas?

I couldn't wait until September to get back out there and paint! I cycled over to the University of Toronto's Knox College and painted in the beautiful courtyard today.

I have to say, after painting outside a lot lately, it was nice to paint a peaceful still life in a controlled environment.

I found this lovely red glass jug at a garage sale over the weekend. And tulips were on sale! Both of which encouraged me to paint larger.

Central Connection Art Show 2014

The weather was fantastic this weekend and as a result we had lots of visitors to the Withrow Park Clubhouse for our art show. You can see from the first pic that the high windows make this a lovely well lit venue. Many thanks to all the supporters for their kind words. And purchases! Thanks Liz for the yummy peach ginger beer!
