whisps

$60 - 4x6" original watercolour on 90lb paper with 8x10"mat
One of my favourite models! I painted this at my last life drawing session. It's small, which I think enhances it's lovely delicacy. I seem to enjoy painting small. I prefer paintings to find their way into the nooks and crannies of a home, as opposed to over the couch or mantel. : )

cattails

$40 - 8x10"original watercolour painting.
I painted this sketch of cattails at the wonderful, very green, Corktown. Fellow pleinair painters and I set up our easels at this lovely lily pond, however it was the cattails that caught my eye. (Although fellow artists called them bulrushes). They actually remind my of my childhood since there were plenty of them in my neighbourhood and we always thought they were so cool!

a reason to be proud

$60 - 5x7"original watercolour painting with 8x10"mat, ready to pop into a frame!
There's lots of anticipation for this beauty to arrive at the distant waiting crowd.

And here's the initial drawing, before I added watercolour. : )

cozy courtyard

$60 - 5x7"original watercolour painting with 8x10"mat

The Toronto Watercolour Society spent a day plein-air painting at the University of Toronto. Every old historic college has a beautiful hidden courtyard in the centre of it. We happily found this one with a lovely bunch of striking, and proud, red flowers.

hand studies with Bibo

SOLD
$60 - 9x12"painting
In class this week we did hand studies. The students brought in small cute objects and designed a page of three hands, trying to get some interesting actions happening. This is the demo I did with a Micron 3 pen, watercolour and my adorable friend Bibo the Koala!

Market Day

$80 - 8x10"painting
I had a fantastic time painting these standing baskets with all the little fruits and veggies in them. I went with the Toronto Plein-Air Artists to Kensington Market for the last Pedestrian Sunday of the year. No cars... well, except for the one parked in the foreground of my painting.

all together now

SOLD
$40 - 5x7"painting with 8x10"mat
I've never been a fan of yellow however, every once in awhile I try to embrace it and find the beauty in it. I think I'm starting to like it a bit more... It's just a difficult colour to paint with. ; )

reflections

This week's Daily Paintwork's Reflections Challenge. It was nice to paint a landscape for a change, and a moody sky too. : )

A few portraits

Here are a few watercolour portraits from my last Life Drawing Session. The model was wonderful, but hard to capture. These short poses, about 5-10 minutes, were drawn with pencil, then I added watercolour to the shadow side, trying to keep it all one interesting shape.

rested

$80 - 8x10"painting
The model at yesterday's Life Drawing Session was just wonderful. Very serene and still.

Monday Life Drawing

forlorn - 5x7"
consider - 8x10"
around - 8x10"
solve - 6x8"
Today's model was wonderful, very relaxed and still. The art room is always silent as every one is drawing, and only the sounds of pencils and brushes swishing in water can be heard.
Here they are all on one page. : )

12 Across "One _ at a Time"

SOLD

This older man sat quite still, in his summer attire, concentrating on his crossword puzzle. Just long enough for me to capture his wonderful character.

lost in thought

I love watercolour because it's about drawing and, as usual, I've left all my pencil marks that show my process. This is another one from this week's life drawing session.
$70 - 8"x10" original hand painted watercolour.
