I've been painting, and teaching, animals in watercolour lately. It's easy to shy away from horses because they're so challenging. But, I'm trying to step up to the plate and capture thier beautiful eyes and distictive shape. Enjoyed painting this immensely! I hope you enjoy it too.

I love letting the paint blend together, especially from one horse to the next, just as they do at the races. And the jockey's clothes (silks) offer lots of colour choices. Horse Anatomy

Thanks to my two favourite animal drawing books, I've got my horse anatomy figured out. It's been a few weeks of hard work, filling sketchbooks with horse drawings while studying bones and muscles and thinking about how they move. I'm now confident I've got a handle on it. So, moving onto horse paintings. : )

horse gestures

Having a blast with pencil, drawing these horse gestures! I spent some time reviewing horse anatomy, from one of my favourite animal drawing books by Jack Hamm called "How to Draw Animals". Then, with the help of free images from pixabay, I drew as many as I could, as fast as I could. : )

Teaching and Horses

The lovely talented artists in the Self-Portrait Drawing Class I'm teaching did wonderful on Thursday night!

A friend of mine at Trafalgar asked me to sit at their Italy Tour promotional booth and be a  "Venetian painter", like on the streets in Italy. It was so fun! A few people came right up and said hello but mostly they just peeked over my shoulder.
