lunch for 3

$60 - 5x7"original watercolour painting with 8x10"mat

I drew these 3 guys with a strong gestural ink line then added a wash of colourful watercolour paint. I was very selective about what I left white. I wanted to do something a bit different and I'm very happy with the end design. : )

last of the summer days

$60 - 5x7"original watercolour painting with 8x10"mat

Well, the first day of fall is around the corner, and the late summer sun casts beautiful shadows through the kitchen window. : )

Berczy Park's cat

8x10" watercolour
I spent Saturday with the Toronto Urban Sketchers over at Berczy Park. The city just finished renovating the triangular park. About 30 life size dog statues now surround, and swim in, the three tier fountain. As well, there is one cat. That's what the girl in my painting is looking at. I think I'll boost up the colour and line of the foreground cat so she's a little bit more noticeable. ; )
In the last photo the fountain turned on, which was a nice sudden surprise! We really wished it was on when we first got there... a good reason to go back and paint it again.

treat

SOLD
$60 - 5x7"original watercolour painting with 8x10"mat.

I saw this scene on my way home, as I was cutting down my favourite little lane. I stopped and drew it, although the man and his dog were long gone, putting them in from memory. They were both so cute. I'm sure the man enjoyed giving his dog the treat as much as the dog enjoyed receiving it. ; )

quiet morning

$60 - 6x8" original watercolour painting with 8x10"mat.
The Toronto Music Garden is an awesome place to paint. It was designed by the famous cellist Yo Yo Ma! The Don Valley Art Club Plein-Air Painters spent Saturday there. We couldn't go wrong with the boats to paint, the benches to sit on, the shade of the many trees, and the near by Starbucks loo.  ; )
Here is a pic of my paintbox set up. When I got home, I decided to close off the corner of the painting by adding the tree in the top right.

shapes and splatters

$60 - 6x9" original watercolour painting in 9x12"mat
I drew this during a life drawing session, with a strong contour line and added my new favourite palette, pink and olive green. I've been working with these two colours now for awhile, and I'm really liking the way the cool pink plays off the warm green. I then added a few decisive shapes... and not so decisive splatters. ; )

expand your horizons

SOLD

Wow, that was a real 50/50 split on the suggestions of how to crop this painting. I decided that a few extra people were cuter than a 'not so beautifully painted' sky. Thanks everyone for participating!

chat

SOLD

Another cafe sketch. I enjoy trying to capture the moment by designing the page with simplicity. I liked his light green shirt next to her red top. Also, I pretended that big post wasn't behind them, and it was just the windows.
