Toronto Watercolour Society - Linda Kemp Workshop

Well, here is my first ever attempt at Negative Painting. I spent the weekend taking a  2 Day Toronto Watercolour Society Workshop with the amazing Linda Kemp. She is a fantastic teacher. We did lots of helpful exercises. Then we did a colourful wet-in-wet wash on our 140b cold-pressed paper, using fresh tube paints, and painted AROUND the positive shapes (berries). Basically, paint the space between the braches, not the branches. It really stretches your artistic vision.
Check out her website HERE
If you ever get a chance to take a class with her, take it!
Happy Painting Everyone!

Knitting for New York

I drew this one with a charcoal pencil. I like that the watercolour doesn't hide the line as much as it can with a 2B pencil. I'm really trying to keep my watercolour paintings 'about line'.

Meanwhile, I'm off to New York!! Super excited about it. Should go more often since it's only an hour flight!
See you next week.

An apple a day

These three paintings, done about 6 years ago, were designed to go together, with the bottom one (with me) being the centre piece and the other two facing in towards it. Recently, the centre piece sold on it's own. I used a glazing technique with about 5 layers of watercolour from light to dark. I paint very differently now!

I stumbled across An Apple A Day art blog. They are collecting 365 paintings of apples, so I entered the top painting. IF YOU'VE GOT AN APPLE PAINTING, JOIN IN ON THE FUN!
