favourite hat

$60 - 5x7"original watercolour painting with 8x10"mat

Well, it seems the 'hat wearers' just keep on coming. Today's cafe moment features 2 people in hats, which are such a treat to paint. I don't think this woman knew I was drawing her, she seemed more excited that we were all enjoying the Passion Iced Tea. Her friend included. His just peeks out from behind his arm.

Viridian Opera

Well, this one doesn't look anything like the model... but I sure had fun messing around with a green and pink palette. I used Viridian and Opera which make a lovely purple. I added dashes of Cadmium Red just to warm it up a bit.
$90 - 9x12"watercolour on 90lb paper.

capri pants

I drew this cafe scene, on location, as an 11x14" painting designed for a 16x20" frame. I like all the open space. However, I'm considering framing it as an 8x10" painting, which would make it look like this:
or even like this...
Hmm. Any preferences?

red stripes

One of my New Year's Drawing Resolutions is to do some fabric studies. I need the practice since, at life drawing there is always fabric draped behind the model which can be just as intimidating as the figure.

A Day at the Museum

I spent the day at the Royal Ontario Museum where I drew this gorgeous giant panda. Today I decided ALL sketches will be on watercolour paper, no more cheap sketchbooks or newsprint... just in case it turns out 'watercolour worthy'!
