There was just something about this little room that grabbed me, the minute I saw the light shinning across the floor. I knew I had to paint it. I added a few colourful dabs on the desktop and some pink flowers too. Then there's the exterior, I kept it all the same value but with a variety of playful colours. 

Super happy with this cozy room.

I mixed hot pink and warm yellow paint together for the insides of the lemons. It encourages a kind of glow! And, I changed the pattern on the tin to little pink petals. : ) See the set up pic below. Stay well ya'll.

Well, I've been dabbling in oil and gouache and I gotta say, I've sure missed watercolour. It's been fun experimenting and I've learned loads, but I'll always return to this beautiful, clean, expressive medium. This charming little set up seemed like the perfect arrangement as we near spring! : )

It's a difficult colour in watercolour and it doesn't have the value range of other colours, but it certainly suits the arrival of spring.

The awesome Lisa Daria, whose dailypainting workshop I hope to take in August, talks about the importance of daily painting and just 'showing up for the job' of being a painter. Not an easy task... For some reason, with the arrival of spring, I've been even more inspired by her working method than I already was! 

Portraits at Todmorden Mills Gallery

The Don Valley Art Club show at Todmorden Mills Gallery ends this weekend. Last chance. ; ) 

We spent our Sunday portrait session at the Gallery instead of our usual studio. It was wonderful and challenging to be in this new setting. The space includes an auditorium so, during intermission, many of the audience members wandered past us as we plugged away at our 25 minute portrait sessions. It was great to combine all the arts together. The Don Valley Art Club is my faaaaaavourite art group in Toronto!

Well, I got half of it painted during my portrait session at Don Valley Art Club. I'm hoping to finish it in studio on Sunday. It's just not the same working on it at home, despite having photos of the unfinished half. 
I really wanted to put the model in context this time, with a few cool props that say 'studio'. I love the statue juxtaposing the model, who was wonderfully still for us. I made his dark jacket white, for some contrast, and for that disco look!! ; )
