I've been painting waterfalls lately and I think this one, called "Full of Surprises", is my fave so far. I think it's the cute little second "step" of water that caught my eye. Today felt like a watercolour day. I work with both oil and watercolour and this morning, this sweet subject said 'watercolour' to me. Actually, working in one medium can teach me a lot about the other! ; )

This little yellow cup is my new favourite still life object. So cute! These flowers from my garden sat perfectly in it. You can check out the time lapse video of me painting this one on my Instagram.

Well, I decided to work with watercolour again, and see where it takes me. I have missed it so much. I always feel that way when I brush off my watercolour palette. The thing is, watercolour is about drawing. And, although I have tried, I can't seem to make oil painting about drawing. It's about painting, and shape. So, since I loooove drawing so much, I decided to jazz up this piece. A good place to start. Super happy with these colourful friends.

Gestural lines made with charcoal pencil is how this painting started. Then I flooded in a colourful deep background to contrast the light pinks of the flowers. These two flowery friends have been inseperable. : ) 

I love red and pink

$60 - 5x7" original gouache painting with 8x10" mat.

The cute colourful glass vases that I got over the holidays continue to inspire me! Since I love red and pink together, I popped a pink flower into the vase and put it under a strong light. I really enjoyed painting the red reflections on the white tablecloth. Check out the pics below, of my easel and set up!

I bought this pad of Strathmore cool blue paper because of it's rough tooth, plus  it's 180lb, so it can take some thick paint.

As you can see, the cool blue is very gray. That's my gouache palette, with a water tight lid. I love it. I was encouraged to get it by the awesome gouache painter Lena Rivo.

It's weird to be painting with white paint, since I'm a watercolour artist and never needed it! As you can see from my palette, I misjudged how much I needed. ; b

Finally, a few close ups of the painting. You can see the tooth of the paper coming through due to it's rough texture. I'm very happy with this bright little piece.

I tried some new paper for this one. Cold-Pressed! Very rare for me, since I love hot-pressed watercolour paper. I also bought a few new brushes so playing around with them too. I had a great time painting these two friends. : )
