These three paintings, done about 6 years ago, were designed to go together, with the bottom one (with me) being the centre piece and the other two facing in towards it. Recently, the centre piece sold on it's own. I used a glazing technique with about 5 layers of watercolour from light to dark. I paint very differently now!
I stumbled across An Apple A Day art blog. They are collecting 365 paintings of apples, so I entered the top painting. IF YOU'VE GOT AN APPLE PAINTING, JOIN IN ON THE FUN!
I enjoyed painting this for The RookiePainter's monthly challenge. There's no need to set up a still life because they supply the photo, so I can immediately concentrate on painting.
My main objective here was to get colour in the darks while keeping them transparent. I worked from a photo reference, which is not the way I usually paint, but I'm happy with the results. SOLD 108
Another session of Life Drawing at TSA, with short poses that are 1-20 minutes each, these 3 being 20's. The results are hit and miss when I work this fast, but I always learn a lot.
I thought I was done my candlelight series however, while I was grocery shopping this weekend, this little bear of honey called out to me. He said, "Psst... Look how cute I am... paint me by candlelight!".
I almost gave up on these paint swatch cards because they are thinly coated with something that causes pencils to smudge and pens to smear. However, I've found a great artist quality pen that works beautifully. Now, I can start thinking about them in groups of 3, matt them, and frame them.
Another Tuesday night portrait session. I'm very happy with the likeness to BJ in this one. I usually paint on an 8"x10" paper, but last night I used 14"x18" and a big brush, which was way more fun.
I loved painting these. I painted with watercolour for 12 years before deciding to concentrate on oil a few years back. It's so different. Lately I've been back at it, trying to stay more active in both.
Now that fall is here, all the art groups have started up again! : )
I'm very happy with this watercolour portrait since my main goal was to get rich darks in the hat and jacket. I came home last night and promised myself to get to the Tuesday night painting sessions often this year!
