Well, I continued with the same model and I'm sure happy that I did. All the lovely oranges in his skin tones created a nice balance with his dark hair and jacket. I love the earrings and the little anchors on his costume collar. And for the hightights, I just went for it with bright blues and pinks. Check out the previous post for this one's 'pair'.

Regal Profile

SOLD

$150 - 6x6" original oil painting on 1/8"board

Painting this model's portrait was a very zen experience for me. It was early on a Sunday morning and as I painted, I listened to a fellow artist with not only a British accent, but also a buttery voice. It was just wonderful. I kinda zoned out while I relied on all of my past painting experience to get it right. Very happy with this one (and it's pair posted next!)

the windowsill

Homes. I love looking at homes whether it be interior decorating pics on Instagram, the t.v. show Escape to the Country, paintings of interiors, or, of course, actual homes! Interiors are full of colours and fun various shapes. It's where we spend so much of our valuable time. It's us. Especially lately...
So, painting interiors has been a subject I've really wanted to explore for some time. It's my New Year's Resolution... Early! I started with this wonderful kitchen windowsill. (I 'ad-libbed' that red and white striped cloth - every kitchen should have one!)

I've been interested in the look of things under water lately. (Like last week's bear feet). Today is was the white rocks that take on beautiful brown and orange colours in a shallow creek. I've wanted to paint this photo of mine for a long time and happily, today was the day!

This is the second photo that I changed considerably... an ability that I've been working on lately. When painting animals, I never find the perfect photo so, adding things like the sinking sun and the flowers is incredibly helpful. Actually, I had to add his stepping leg too!

carmine

This Carmine beauty is part of the African bee-eater family. I love the turquoise crown on this one, and of course the red/pink belly that gives it it's name.
This bird is painting number 30 (!) in the bird series. Phew! I haven't made it past 3 in a series before. #doh. You may see another bird or two fly onto my canvas in the future but for now, onto new subjects.

This Australian Zebra Finch has stripes, hence his name, as well as dots and a cute red beak. They jump around a lot saying "meep meep". Such a pleasure to paint! I made a video of the painting process in real time but edited down to 2 minutes. Check my Facebook or Instagram pages. Cheers.

Tody Birds!

Tody Birds often perch themselves on low branches and look around for grasshoppers to eat, while enjoying their day in the Caribbean. When they decide to travel, they 'hop', as little birds do. I painted these colourful cuties together, with matching backgrounds, on boards that are mini, like them!
$50 each - 4.5x4.5" on board.
