CRISPY CRUNCH

SOLD
OIL - 8x8" original oil painting on 3/4"deep panel, with sides painted. There is already a wire for hanging on the back of this piece. It's ready to hang!

Ya' gotta' love a crisp apple! Or two... or seven. Painting a high angle viewpoint is always cool. Thanks to Sarah Sedwick for the awesome photo reference. They're great to have when I'm painting early in the morning and I don't have any fruit in the house. ; )

Little K

SOLD

$100 - 6x6" original oil painting with 3/4"sides
Remember these adorable Koala clips?! I wore one on my knapsack all through junior high school and another on the collar of my winter coat. Well, I recently found Little K here at a garage sale and I happily thought, 'he can be part of my finger puppet collection... and my painting series'. #toocute

Meet Blossom Bear! She's been helping me out with my hand studies lately. Hee hee. She's added a nice touch to my little oil painting project. Over the years I've collected lots of finger puppets... and there will be more cutie-patooties to come!

Seamstress mannequins have the nickname 'Judy'. I added a little tape measure and tomato pin cushion... can you find them? : )
Why are pin cushions a tomato? lol.

$100 - 6x6" original oil painting on 1/8"board

This Australian Zebra Finch has stripes, hence his name, as well as dots and a cute red beak. They jump around a lot saying "meep meep". Such a pleasure to paint! I made a video of the painting process in real time but edited down to 2 minutes. Check my Facebook or Instagram pages. Cheers.

I love the glow of light behind these adorable Kingfishers, it shows off their distinctive crowns. The bigger one is peeking around the smaller one. #socute

dashing

SOLD
$90 - 6x6" original oil painting on 1/8" panel
I chose to paint this dashing beauty because of his bold look. His orange beak and blue body are perfect complimentary colours. He just seems to confident! And I think my bird paintings are getting more confident too. ; )
Here's a detail of him. I happily left a bit of the original pink panel colour to pop through. Cheers.

lilac roller

SOLD
$90 - 6x6" original oil painting on 1/8" panel
This colourful beauty can be found amongst the trees in Africa. One of the most colourful birds known to us, the lilac-breasted roller. So fun to paint! And I kept the brach flowers loosey-goosey so he stayed the star of the show.

on the look out

SOLD
$90 - 6x6" original oil painting on 1/8" board
These lemons are working together, with an eye in each direction in case, you know, there's trouble. ; )
Here's the black and white 5 value study that we did in the awesome Sarah Sedwick Online Oil Level 2 Class on Saturday.
It was really helpful to do this! I often do a value sketch with pencil or charcoal first however, doing it in oil first really made a difference.
Here's my set up, very similar to my iPad view during the Zoom class, so Sarah could see. There were about 18 of us and Sarah shared her screen, so she had her demo and her palette showing. It was really an excellent workshop. Very informative.
And here I am, sneaking into the photo. Cameras love to make one of my eyes wonky. #shrug
Cheers Y'all and Be Well.

patterned

SOLD
$90 - 6x6" original oil painting on 1/8" panel
This pretty pattern is actually the top of a hat box. I placed the silver cup and cherries on it and just loved the way the flowers reflected in the cup. Everything swoops up to the side!
Here's a pic of my last painting with it.

sail on over

SOLD
$100 - 6x6" original oil painting on 1/8" panel

Reflections look sooo cool in metallic foil balloons. The colour on this dusty rose ballon sure changes with every bounce of light! Thanks again to Teddi Parker (awesome artist) for the #balloonchallenge

sun-kissed willow buds

$90 - 6x6" original oil painting on 1/8" panel
In order to capture the little "whispies" of the willow buds, I used a toothpick.
Sometimes, a brush just doesn't do the job.
Also, I don't normally paint like this but, when painting glass, it can be easier to just fill in the whole background.
Then I started to build up the glass. Normally, I do a drawing with burnt umber and a thin brush and work my way out. It was quite a challenge to take this approach but... always learning! Cheers.

the storyteller

SOLD
6x6" original painting on 1/8" board.
I love the shape of this oil bottle. It's got a kind of confidence about it. The tomatoes are certainly enthralled with what it has to say!
I used the lovely Ampersand flat (1/8") panel, pre-gessoed, for this piece. They are wonderful to paint on!

little one

SOLD
$60 - about 4x4" (11cm x 11cm to be exact!) original oil painting
I painted this little bird for the Monday art dare challenge, which was to paint something starting with 'H'. I thought this cutie-patootie hummingbird would do the trick. They really are such remarkable tiny birds. The panel is approximately 4x4" which suits one of the world's smallest birds just fine!
I wanted a cool pink background to enhance the lovely purples in his face and neck. Here's a process pic, almost at the half way point.

sides painted to match background.

swoop!

SOLD
$70 - 6x6" original oil painting on 1"deep panel/painted sides.
new - Free Shipping in Canada - to make up for the US$ link ; )

Painting the "swoop" of the sky, water and beach of this heart balloon was a blast!! These metallic balloon are so fun, and challenging, to paint. I think I achieved the metallic nature of this cute beach balloon more successfully than my last balloon.
Daily Painting - Paint small, learn big... it's true!
Shout out to the awesome Teddi Parker for the #teddiparkerballoonchallenge. Her work (on Insta) is truly astonishing. She's no slouch and she takes on every challenge successfully!!

inside joke

Today's Two Colour Portrait was with Lemon Yellow and Dioxazine Purple, plus white for mixing. I'm getting the hang of this limited palette approach. : )

take 2

$90 - 5x5" original oil painting on 1" deep panel
This painting is called Take 2 because... well, take 1 is pictured below. I was very happy with my little painting until I realized there was a fault line right down the middle of my canvas. Doh! and Argh! So, I grabbed a fresh board and painted the lovely pink and orange flowers again (above). I love the dark wine flowers, they really helps spruce up the mix. Thankfully, I'm equally happy with take 2. : )

myPAOTW - Bernardine Evaristo

8x8" original oil painting on panel with 1"deep painted sides.
Here's my portrait of the beautiful colourful Bernardine Evaristo for the second week of the Portrait Artist of the Week Challenge. She's the writer of Girl, Woman, Other which won the Booker in 2019. SkyTV is continuing the Portrait Artist Challenge and now, everyone can join in on the fun every Sunday (uk time) over on Facebook. She sat staring at the computer and talking to the host for 4 hours (while thousands of people painted her), including this week's artist that skyTV chose. So... 3 screens happening for the show! So fun!
