eggs!

I bought some 5"x10" stretched canvas. I thought it would be fun to try some new compositions.  Really enjoyed finding a subject to fit the canvas.

Slept in a bit today and almost missed the sunrise!  Maybe because it's a bit of a grey day. Still lovely out though.

I really enjoyed painting this clay pot. It's a great shape. It reminds me of those old-fashioned tin milk containers.

after Frank Frazetta

Watercolour on Yuppo Paper
2B pencil sketch in sketchbook
Frank Frazetta is a great comic book artist and I love these polar bears that he originally did in oil. I knew Yuppo paper would be perfect for the wet, icy, cold style I was trying to achieve.

Balcony Flowers

I just received my new Artwork Essentials Classic Easyl. It's designed for Plein-Air painting, so I can paint on location.  I just love it. So, for my first adventure, I took it out onto my balcony! (I'm a firm believer in baby steps).

after John Singer Sargent

Tamara Karsavina in the role of Thamar
Henry James
Sir William Blake Richmond
Today I drew studies from Sargent's (my fave artist) book of Portraits. I was focusing on the strokes he used to block in large areas vs. when he used a single simple line. I didn't intend to slavishly copy them, just learn from them. Now I have a much better understanding of drawing eyes!

Plaid and Turquoise

The Square Foot Art Show at AWOL Gallery is next month. This is the first of 3 paintings I'm going to submit, 12"x12" each (hence square foot!). It's such a great show. It's not juried so it's a mixed bag of nuts! It truly embraces all walks of art.

UPDATE - I touched up this painting in November of 2019. I thought the labels on the paint were not quite readable enough.... although they are still abstracted. ; )

Cherry Branch

in frame
John brought this to our Wednesday still life painting group. It's from his garden! It's my favourite colour combo, red/orange with blue/green. I painted it on a board which, unlike canvas, hasn't any 'give' to it, so it changed my brushstrokes. Not good or bad, just different. Hmm.

I often use watercolour at my Monday night figure painting session.  I enjoy painting the artists as well as the model to add context to the piece. I love drawing, and I miss it when I've been working in oil.
