King George Craft Show

Come on out to the 1st Annual King George Craft Show in Toronto this Saturday May 2nd from 10-2pm! Lots of vendors! I'll be selling my paintings and my one-long-line drawings. The drawings are in cute colourful frames.

I spent this rainy Tuesday urban sketching in a dry cafe, drawing people.
$40 - 5x7"painting with 8x10"mat.
Here's my process - 

I drew with my 6B pencil on a small hot-pressed watercolour pad.

You can see my tiny palette, that was once an eye shadow kit! Very unobtrusive!

Also, my small water container, a rag and my size 14 watercolour paint brush.

Another customer sat down, so I quickly added her, left of the blonde woman.

Happy with this one... and onto another. : )

a Sunday in April

I spent today sketching from a cafe in downtown Toronto. This lovely building, from the mid 1800's, is soon to become condos. 

I've sketched this street with my trusty little sketch box, shown below, many times. I will miss it...

Teaching and Horses

Awesome App!

I just discovered this awesome app/website called Quickposes. I'm working towards a 'certificate' they offer, 10 hours of drawing gestures in 20 days (30mins a day/2 minute poses). They are really great models. I used charcoal pencil on 11x14"newsprint pad. : )

Watercolour Classes - April 2015

This week's Daily Paintworks Challenge is to paint sunflowers. I had a wonderful time with this painting. I enjoyed adding all the wild purple and blue flowers and doing lots of negative painting within the stems. As well as a bit of 'fingernail scratches'. : )

Watercolour Demo - April 13, 2015

If you're in Toronto on Monday April 13, 2015, I'll be doing a watercolour demonstration! Actually, first I'll be talking a bit about life drawing short poses, since so many fellow life drawing artists will be there, then I'll be doing a flower demo. There will be cookies!

Here is this week's Daily Paintworks Challenge, which was to paint the photo provided. I added some blue flowers and leaves to the right side of the little glass jar, to balance things out. I also added one in the yellow jug, on the left. I'm really pleased with the way it turned out. : )

The model at yesterday's Life Drawing Session was just wonderful. Very serene and still.

The practise of portraits continues, as they are soooo challenging! So, I've been doing lots of small quick studies on 90lb paper. I am very happy with the light on this one.

I think I'm gettin' the hang of these Zentangles. I used two patterns called akoya (braided pearls) and florz (like tiles). Then I shaded in with colour pencils. This one is 5x7". It kinda works 'upside down' too!
