I'm working on a few more abstracts before teaching a Watercolour Class this Thursday. It's about using selected colours in loose non-representational ways.

extra caramel

SOLD

The challenge for this painting was, given my love for lines, trying to leave selective areas alone, letting the pencil marks stand on their own. : )

cards and show

Lots of line drawing of animals, that started as sketches for InkTober, but ended up as cards I'll be selling at my next show! I think I'll splash some watercolour on them all. : )
Next art show - Saturday Nov. 14th at the Eastminster United Church
310 Danforth, at Chester in Toronto
10-5 Free and TONS of vendors!

just a little somethin'

SOLD
$60 - 5x7"painting with 8x10"mat
I looked into my 'still life objects cupboard' and thought, I'd just like to paint a little something. And this cute creamer with turquoise stripes jumped out at me. So, I added a simple fruit and a few flowers and enjoyed painting it.

a few more hand studies

SOLD
Well, InkTober is coming to an end. I've had lots of fun with it. I hope to squeeze one more ink drawing in this week. If not, until next year. : )

a pearl of wisdom

I really enjoyed painting this portrait! I almost didn't touch the line drawing, but in the end I figured I'd go for it.
The art show last week went very well. Thank you so much to all those that came out to it!
I have all of my art framed and ready for a few more group art shows before X-mas, and now I have time to get back to doing some watercolour painting.
Stay tuned. : )

iPad Art

Awhile back I was fooling around with the SketchBook Pro app on my iPad. It's really fun drawing on the screen with a rubber tipped pen called a stylus. I'm also interested in incorporating pattern into my art more.
And now, off to the Riverdale Art Show for day two!

"Jo" and "think aloud"

InkTober is keeping my on my toes with portraits! I'm drawing with an RSVP pen, which is quite fine, then adding a wash. Also, finished framing all my work today in preparation for the show this weekend. Super excited! Watercolours really shine once they are matted and framed.
Here's info for the Toronto Riverdale Group Art Show.

Sue's hat... Jim's hat

I'm really enjoying InkTober! It's got me doing 3-value portrait studies with an RSVP pen and wash, homework that is long overdue. It's easy to get caught up in the wonderful world of watercolour, but sometimes it's important to go back to basics. Also, I do love painting people wearing hats. : )

cover to cover

Here's my second line drawing for InkTober. I drew this one while at the library and it's so nice to see people with books in front of them, instead of computers! Still working on how to take a photo of a white piece of paper... looking a bit gray but the only alternative is over exposed. Any ideas?

aroma

SOLD

I was inspired by the Daily Paintworks Interiors Challenge for this one, which I drew while enjoying my morning tea. I usually ask for a little steamed milk with extra foam on my tea, just to jazz it up a bit. ; )
$50 - 5x7"painting with 8x10"mat.

by the tree

In 2009, an awesome artist named James Parker started InkTober. Everyone is welcome to join in and you don't have to post everyday, just whenever you can through the month of October! Here are the very loose 'rules'.
This is my first one, done in micron pen while enjoying this still surprisingly warm weather we are having!

Market Day

$80 - 8x10"painting
I had a fantastic time painting these standing baskets with all the little fruits and veggies in them. I went with the Toronto Plein-Air Artists to Kensington Market for the last Pedestrian Sunday of the year. No cars... well, except for the one parked in the foreground of my painting.

all together now

SOLD
$40 - 5x7"painting with 8x10"mat
I've never been a fan of yellow however, every once in awhile I try to embrace it and find the beauty in it. I think I'm starting to like it a bit more... It's just a difficult colour to paint with. ; )

study of a bottle

SOLD

Back to still life studies with my weekly fellow artists group called The Adrian Angels! I love these kinds of bottles, which I learned are called 'fiasco' bottles, and I've been wanting to paint one for some time. Happy to explore the chance!

take centre stage

$80 - 8x10"painting
Here is the Watercolour Demo I did last night for the lovely Willowdale Group of Artists. Biggest crowd I've ever painted in front of, with about 40 people. Lots of positive feedback. Thank you so much to all the member who came out to see me for the first meeting back this year!
